*Below are the people in order of priority who need to give permission to cremate
*Majority means if there are 3 children, then 2 children have to give permission to cremate
- Funeral Representative (If none exists, then #2 can sign)
- Spouse (If there is no spouse or status is divorced or widowed then #3 can sign)
- Majority of biological children over the age of 18 (If there are no children then #4 can sign)
- Majority of biological grandchildren over the age of 18 (If there are no grandchildren, then #5 can sign)
- Biological parents (If there are no parents, then #6 can sign)
- Biological grandparents (If there are no grandparents, then #7 can sign)
- Majority of biological brothers and sisters over the age of 18 (If there are no siblings, then #8 can sign)
- Any Biological nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins over the age of 18
- NOTE: A power of attorney (POA) in Michigan ends automatically when the principal dies. The agent no longer has the authority to act on behalf of the principal, and any actions taken after death are considered invalid.
