If you are considering donation for your loved one, or if your loved one has already made the
choice to become a donor, it’s natural to have questions about what donation means and whether
donation may affect the arrangements you desire. We are here to provide guidance, support your
decisions, and walk alongside you during this difficult time.
Organ, eye, and tissue donation is a meaningful way for an individual to leave a lasting legacy.
Donation is an act of kindness that can save and heal the lives of others. One donor can save eight
lives through organ donation and improve countless lives through tissue donation. Knowing that your
loved one made a meaningful difference in the lives of so many others may be a source of hope amid
loss. Most faith traditions view organ, eye, and tissue donation as an act of compassion and
generosity.
Our Funeral Home’s Commitment to Honoring Donors
We are a Donation Champion Funeral Home. This means our staff proudly supports and honors those who
choose to give the ultimate gift. Our funeral directors work closely with Gift of Life Michigan,
the state’s only federally regulated organ procurement organization, to honor life through
donation. Our funeral directors will guide you in creating meaningful ways to recognize your loved one’s
generosity. If you wish, you may request a special Gift of Life tribute to reflect your loved one’s
legacy. We can design a service to include a Donor Hero Pinning Ceremony, the presentation of a
Donor Hero Certificate, or the signing and display of a Donate Life flag.
Does Donation Impact Funeral or Visitation Arrangements?
Organ and tissue donation should not prevent you from selecting services that fit your needs.
Sometimes adjustments to the scheduled day for services or visitation may be necessary. Our funeral
directors will work closely with Gift of Life to ensure that the arrangements you choose continue
as seamlessly as possible. Throughout the donation process, our funeral home maintains open
communication with Gift of Life professionals to help coordinate details and keep you informed
every step of the way.
Does Donation Impact the Appearance of My Loved One?
Appearance following donation is a common concern. Gift of Life performs the surgical recovery of
organs and tissues with great care. A moment of silence is observed by the care team prior to
recovery to recognize your loved one’s lifesaving legacy. Every effort is made to support a viewing
or open casket visitation. You are encouraged to discuss any specific concerns with your funeral
director.
Donation and Funeral Costs
Any cost directly associated with organ and tissue donation is covered by Gift of Life Michigan and
will not appear on the funeral home bill. All funeral home costs are the responsibility of the
family or estate.
The Grief Journey and Ongoing Support for Donor Families
Every person’s journey through grief is unique. For some, the decision to donate can bring
a sense of comfort—knowing their loved one helped others in a profound way.
Support is available throughout the donation process and for as long as you may need. Donor
families have access to grief support, remembrance opportunities, and many other resources designed
to honor your loved one and help you navigate their loss.
